Boxster window won't retract after battery replacement

Asked by scottjgoldman Jun 10, 2014 at 07:23 PM about the 2001 Porsche Boxster Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

After replacing the battery the driver's side window will not retract at all.
The passenger window works fine - even with the one-touch up/down.
The driver side window is up at the full position preventing me from
closing the door with the top up.  I have tried disconnecting the battery
and then reconnecting it thinking that it would reset something but that
didn't work.

hold down drivers side window switch for 6 seconds and it well reset - make sure door is closed or use a screwdriver to trick car into thing its closed

I've had the same issue for a few weeks now and after trying everything I found on the web, 6 second hold, hitting the side of the door, pushing on window, getting a quote of over $500 including the shops "Porsche hourly rate" (that got me) I accidentally figured it out. I had to open the soft top a bit to get the gunk under the soft top and the hard cover so I left it half way open and turned the key off. Once I got the it all cleaned I put the key back in and WOW the window went down a little as to get ready for the top to open or close. Joy Joy Joy. It now works perfectly. It wasn't the motor as a few expert shops said it was but rather a programming issue.
