If you mean the shifter itself is NOT moveable , it sounds like the brake interlock system is not functioning. Usually there is a fail safe for this system when it fails on a floor shift. There will be a little hole to stick a screw driver into, carefully insert it into it to release the handle to shift. The problem is the brake switch and/or cable that controls the system is malfucntioning.

Thank you Mike! I just figured out what to do and I'm back on the road. Now I know what is wrong when I take it in to have the brake switch and/or cable replaced (unless of course that is a fix I can do myself?) Thank you from: 'doing ok for a stupid blonde!' Cheryl
