Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I replaced the belt tensioner assembly and the belt is to tight, I am afraid it puts a strain on alternator and drive shaft, It is so tight it won't slip over alternator pulley.

no , I do not think so at all , thats why they came up with it so there's no guess work , something is mis matched either the belt or the tensioner ,what else was done ?

Some cars have adjustable idler wheels, for others you adjust the alternator or other engine accessory to adjust the belt tension.

I've had to watch the alternator pulleys on some of the older ford vans , the new part would have a slightly different pulley that would have to be swapped with the original .
