2002 Pontiac sunfire while driving stumbles and looses power.

Asked by 66mustangchris Sep 17, 2015 at 12:00 PM about the 2002 Pontiac Sunfire SE Coupe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2002 Pontiac sunfire while driving stumbles and looses power. It tries to shut
off. Dash display lights up all icons on the dash, then settles back to normal.
It will do the same when taking off, and sometimes stall, then recover. There is
no check engine light. No current code show on OBD scanner.
It was suggested since low fuel pressure will not trigger codes, but might
trigger my conditions, I acquired a fuel pressure checking kit. Fuel rail has no
checking ports. Other then inlet to the rail, there is no access into the fuel line.
There is not any quick release access fittings in the engine compartment. The
fuel rail inlet is much larger then any in the kit. Very little room for improvising
other fittings. After all that, the still might not be the problem.
Help please!
Thank you!
P.S. This is the 2.4 engine, with an auto trans.

Check air filter and clean throttle body replace fuel filter add Lucas Fuel Injector Cleaner to gas tank.

I changed air filter.. Cleaned throttle body completely. Changed fuel filter, and added Lucas FI cleaner. Condition still exists. Thanks anyway.

That was just some general maintenance things to try first. When was the last time you had a tune up ? Maybe a miss firing spark plug and also check spark plug wires making sure they are not worn or arking causing spark plug miss.
