winshield wiper stopped working

what would cause the wipers on my 2004 pontiac montana to stop working? they 'froze" in an open position--I can get them down, but they just stutter when I try to turn them on....

I have also run into this problem... did you get your fixed yet? Any insight?

yes --there is a tab on the mechanism on the passenger side--under the plastic cover-that was out of place. my husband was able to rig it so they work, but still don't close all the way
