Chirping alternator

I replaced coil packs on my 98 Ford
Econoline 250 cargo van and noticed about
half of the wires to my alternator are broke
off.  Obviously I am going to cut off the bad
wire and strip new wire and re bolt it on.  My
question is should I get it checked for a bad
bearing because it has been chirping for
about a week and want to prevent a more
costly repair because I'm broke and do all
my own work and would be screwed if it has
to be put in a shop.  All input is appreciated

If you don't want to spend money on a new one, remove it and take it to auto parts store to have tested and see if it makes that noise on their test machine, it's free. If it does,replace it bofere you get stranded

i have a 1991 econoline van, i recently put a new starter,alternator,battery,selonoid,battery, cables, ( which i had to use an extention on the cables ground to hook it to the original ground on the engine) my problem is when i drive and stop it won't start back up but if it sits for about an hour it will start again, but now it seems that the battery is run down and i have to re-charge the battery for over 5 hours and it didn't take a full re-charge any suggestion. thank you 1 Answer
