what do I need to do?

Asked by Jeremy Mar 18, 2020 at 02:05 PM about the 1996 Ford Ranger Splash Extended Cab Stepside SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I recently installed a tranny in my ranger. I drove it to the local dump and the
radiator busted. Now the tranny won't engage at all. What do I need to do as far
as fixing the problem?

Is it an automatic transmission. Did you install the transmission? There are cooling lines that run to the radiator. If the radiator failed, then the cooling of the transmission was compromised and or coolant migrated into the transmission. Check the transmission fluid, is it a pink milkshake? Then that is coolan mixing. So replace the radiator with the correct one, and drain and flush the transmission fluid a few times and the cooling lines and hope it starts shifting again.
