91 Nissan Stanza won't click on anything when key turned

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I haven't had many problems with car besides speedometer not working and a deer hitting me knocking out lens but recently just wouldn't start at store. Tried to jump but I already knew it wasn't that because everything worked but I thought about starter cylenoid but wasn't sure because i was able to get it home by being pushed and popping cluth in 2nd. Still even when I got home nothing. However weird I've been popping my cig lighter fuses. Checked starter fuses ignition fuses, and a few others but no luck. It is a clutch and has 253000 miles on it

Clean the battery terminal ends first. Then check the battery voltage and charging system. Battery should have 12 - 12.4 volts with engine stopped and 13 - 13.5 with the engine running.

Yes, the problem is "in" the starter solenoid.( Hitachi starters only) Now here is the cure, take the starter solenoid off the starter. What you will find is a coiled spring. (2), now you will stretch out the spring, about an 1/8 in. (3), put back in solenoid and assemble to the starter. This will allow the starter to operate if the brushes in the body of the starter are still ok. Then it will work again.I chose to rebuild my original Japanese starters. One can also put a monetary switch between the battery and the starter, at the starter connections, its like a screw drive shorting the starter. I install these in all my 5 stanzas . When the key wont work, turn key to on, then push the switch, the starter gets kicked and will start.( Like my uncle's 1948 chevy trk with the starter button on the floor) Works on Hitachi & Mitsubishi starters. Mount the switch near the brake booster, (NAPA has all the parts needed)
