1996 Ford explorer v6 4.0

When I first start my 96 Ford explorer the
Tom's jump it spits and spuders and then
shut off,but it will crack back up .If I keep my
foot on the gas just a little bitto keep it from
shutting off till it warms up it runs fine,but if
it sets for a while and cool off it starts to act
up and spitting and  spudering and shuts off
