ENGINE RUNS ONLY SHORT TIME

1966 Chevelle SS 396, just had carb rebuilt (Holley 750). ran great after rebuild
tor an hour. Now it will start if I prime it and runs as long as i rev it up. Try to idle
and it stalls. Idle was set to 800 rpm. replaced fuel tank and plugs. Slight back
fire when it does run. has plenty of good fuel and fuel filter is full. Any help?
