Speed senser on transmission

Could the speed senser on the transmission cause the
transmission to not engage when the shifter is moved to
drive position. My speed senser has two frayed wires also.
Transmission was working fine on vehicle it got parked 5
years ago have it running again fine but it is just reving
when I put it in drive the trans fluid and engine oil has been
changed

The first thing I'd check is the wiring going to the transmission. Five years is a long time for a vehicle to sit! Especially if it was stored outside! You could have critter damage. Mice, rats, and squirrels love to chew on wires and make nests in vehicles that are sitting! If that's ok, check the transmission fluid level. Make sure it's not excessively low. Beyond that you may be looking at replacing the transmission. Hope that helps! Jim
