disconnecting the battery should clear the code .Did you repair the EGR problem?

Clearing the code by disconnecting the battery will not pass smog test. U need to repair the problem that triggered the code. Once it's fixed, it will clear by itself after u drive it. If u fixed it and cleared the code, u still need to drive it so the ECM will scan the entire system otherwise it will not pass smog.

No code stored will clear by itself even when the problem is repaired, however you do need to repair the problem to pass. The EGR system is not that complicated and is usually a vacuum hose leak at the EGR valve control solenoid or a dirty EGR valve built up with carbon preventing the needle from lifting when vacuum is applied to the diaphragm, or bad EGR temperature sensor.
