Car takes awhile to gain speed

Asked by Nettewes1 Dec 06, 2016 at 12:26 PM about the 2005 Nissan Altima 2.5 S

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car struggles to gain speed. I press on the gas and it
strains to gain speed until it jerks and shifts gears. Then
when I drive between 35-70 it really strains and the gauge
stays a notch below the third shift and never switches.
Also when my car is parked at an upward angle the gas
light comes on when I have half a tank but it reads below
E. My car is 211,000 miles and I've replaced alternator,
battery, all cylinders, and catalytic converter

Is the check engine light on? Maybe the engine is worn out but it could have slipped time or perhaps it just badly needs a tuneup.
