Gas mileage going down
My 2019 Kia Niro Hybrid (non plug-in) was getting
545 miles to a tank. I just filled up and I am only
getting 493 miles to the tank and I topped it off.
There are a lot of things that can cause gas mileage to drop off, from a clogged air filter to a defective fuel pump. Your car's new and under warranty, and you should address this with the dealer.
I have a Niro and my fuel mileage drops in the winter. The battery is not as efficient in colder climates.
Hi, Jeff: If your fuel efficiency drops in winter, it's probably due to the petroleum companies switching to winter blend; it's not as hot as a summer blend. This is somewhat odd, as in southern California we used to get better fuel economy during colder, wetter weather. But that was fifty years ago, before they had different formulas for different seasons..... Batteries are less efficient in extreme temperatures, hot or cold. And the resistance inside an engine due to colder, thickened oil adds to cold climate starting problems. More money spent on better batteries is worthwhile to palliate this trouble.
Don't top off as all you are doing is wasting gas. Keep doing it an you will end up with expensive EVAP system repairs.
Lower battery performance in cold weather will probably reduce fuel economy in a hybrid.
