Engine startup idle speed

Asked by EASTGURU Sep 28, 2019 at 10:29 PM about the 2019 Subaru Outback 3.6R Touring AWD

Question type: General

2019 3.6 engine idles at 1500 when first cranked in the morning.  I must wait
about 5 minutes for it to idle down to 750.  Can I put into gear at the higher ram
without waiting for the rims to go down?

You can drive it before it idles down. Take it easy on the throttle until it warms up.

2.5i idle initially at 2k. Just wait a nice half minute after cold start to distribute a bit of warming oil around. Longer in winter, but you needn't await low idle. Maybe stay below 4k until warmed up, as my buddy suggests above. Ern TSG/B

There should be a blue thermometer symbol on the dash that illuminates when the engine is too cold to operate at anything but a light throttle. Wait for it to go out before using a lead foot.
