Car is using a tonne of gas. Rich fuel smell outside the car. Car idles rough when completely cold but otherwise fine. Whats wrong?

If it's running rich you should be setting some trouble codes, so get those read, it might be a sensor issue or something else like a leaky fuel rail or injectors.

The car is throwing up a P0420 code referring to cat. I have had the cat examined and it is in working order. The front o2 sensor has been replaced but the second has not. Also the coolant sensor was changed. I suspect a sensor but they are costly to replace so I am trying to narrow it down.
