99 Mercury villager sport,starts fine but when I put it in reverse or drive it dies, my son said the engine tilts forward when I put it in gear. Please help

sounds like a possible broken motor mount. when the engine torques, something else shorts out and it dies.

Get OEM engine mounts, not the aftermarket ones. Try oemfordparts.com replace right front and rear mounts, you van will drive as well as a brand new one. These mounts are notorious for going bad.
