mercury tracer brake lights out

Asked by RonCarter411 Oct 05, 2020 at 04:57 PM about the 1999 Mercury Tracer GS Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My son just bought a 1999 Mecury Tracer with 60K miles, and we thought it
was in great condition for its age But it seems to be cursed. Yesterday, his
brake lights went out. We replaced all of the bulbs and the fuse that says
'stop' on the fuse box. Still no brake lights. Turn signals, hazards and reverse
lights all work fine (I know they're on the same bulbs). I don't want to take it
back to a mechanic - AGAIN - if there's a relatively easy solution that I don't
know about.  Thanks for any insight.

We tried the fuses, but not the brake switch. Getting to the brake switch is the biggest problem, but we'll give it a shot. Thanks!
