I heard a pop and now there is a grinding noise, what could it be?

Asked by Roman_6109 Feb 17, 2017 at 09:29 AM about the 1998 Mazda Protege 4 Dr LX Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1998 Mazda Protege LX standard
transmission. I put the car in reverse and before it
moved I heard a loud grindy pop noise. Now no
matter what gear the car is in there is a grinding/
rubbing noise. It still moves though. I don't know
what I broke on the car but if someone can help
figure it out. I already have one car down I can't
afford another right now.
