Is it possible to put a motor and granny from a 97
Ford Explorer XLT 2x4 in a 98 Ford Explorer 4x4

Probably if they are the same as what you already have. You will have to ask your granny if she will go along with the plan though.

Yes it will work. If both are V6 it will be a simple swap. If one of the engines is a V8, you'll have to reprogram the PCM.
