I have a 2018 Beetle Turbo (gas)

I just had the oil changed  at about 9000 miles and the engine light has come
on.. The oil level seems to be fine but it appear that the reset on the service
was not done.....would that cause the engine light to come on? the odometer
on the care is about 9300 miles and according to the milage for the next
service is set for 9500 miles not what should be the reset, something closer to
20,000 miles

The oil change shop should reset the reminder for you at not cost since they forgot. If you care about your car at all do not go that far between changes. I would do it every 5,000 miles and ignore the dash light.
