Car won't accelerate when pedal pressed from dead stop

Asked by Rainer Jul 15, 2022 at 01:15 PM about the 2018 Toyota Camry XLE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

From a complete stop or rolling stop the car will not accelerate when the gas
pedal is pressed. After a long delay, 4-5 seconds, the car will begin to move
as normal. There is no check engine light on and the car turns on just fine.
Once the car begins moving everything seems fine. I can accelerate up to at
least 45mph and there is no stuttering or any abnormalities.
Anyone have any ideas?

scan for codes anyways , could be a bad TPS , sounds like an electrical short in one of the sensor circuits . things should be tested before you spend money on parts you don't need .

This sounds like a TPS but I would have the system live data scanned before spending anything.

Consider checking a few basics. Check the engine oil. Is it full? Feel it between your fingers....smell the oil. Do the same with the Auto Trans. Check the owners manual on how to check the trans oil. A slipping trans problem may explain why there is no CEL. Get back with results.
