I woul be inclined to check the Engine AND Transmission oil levels. Smell the oil. Does it smell burnt?

Sounds like a trans failure. Suggestions. Start making phone calls. Call your nearest Auto Salvage place. Ask what a good used Trans woulld cost for your make model year. Then...call a few Trans repair shop for an estmate on towing...DIAGNOSIS ..repair of what appears to be a Trans issue. Get back with results.
