Why does Ford limit the top speed to 157 mph on a 2018 Mustang GT?

Question type: General

With 460 HP it could go way faster than this. Why would it be limited to 157
mph?

Most likely Lawyers. Buy a programmer and you can change the limiter.

It is limited probably due to the tires that came on it.

I own a 2018 Mustang GT. Both answers here are correct. However, since I no longer have stock tires and I fully own my Mustang, because I paid it off in full, I will be removing the limiter because I don't feel anyone has the right to limit MY vehicle. I don't plan on going anywhere near that fast, but to me, it's a matter of principle.
