2004 Kia Optima, hesitation, sluggish acceleration

Asked by a1greene May 30, 2015 at 05:46 PM about the 2004 Kia Optima EX V6

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2004 Kia Optima w a V6. Am noticing occasionally when I step on the gas it is
sluggish in acceleration response. Almost seems like it's starving for fuel? Not missing,
not sputtering. Has only happened a couple of times. Both have been after it's been
sitting all day. Not on original take off, but the first acceleration over say 20mph...
someone told me to change plugs and wires... yes? or other thoughts?

Sounds like your throttle body needs to be cleaned out but first I would try a bottle of cleaner to put in your gas tank. A fuel filter would be something else to consider. Also try putting in middle grade or high test gas every now and then.
