I baby mine, 1990 4.0 in-line 6, and get around 15 town, but up to 24 highway, usually around 22. I remember the sticker stating 15 to 19, but have been very pleased. Keep tire pressure ok, baby the acceleration and cruise as much as possible, no extra weight in the jeep. Love the Jeep, even with gas near $3.80, won't trade or part with my daily driver. good luck!

I have a 98 Grand Cherokee Laredo 2Dr 4WD SUV strait six engine 4.0L I get around 25MPG on the high way I'm not sure if our engines are the same? Or if they made drastic changes between our two models? but that sounds really low.

andrew is right, try the fuel filter and get new plugs and wires. if that doesnt work, sorry. its a jeep. get use to it lol

Try a K and N air filter..ur gonna be shocked at the increase you'll feel in the acceleration and I improved my fuel mileage between 4 and 7 mpg on all of my vehicles.

K/N filters are terrible! the pores on the filter are so large they allow large amounts of dust into the engine. the most that swapping a CAI (cold air intake) will do is change your exhaust note. keep your stock airbox, ESPECIALLY if you off-road your jeep

Keep your RPM in the 2000-2500 range. Keep a good tune on the engine, air filter, oil and filter, plugs and ect. It isn't much better than that 15-17. My friend with a 2000 pulling a small camping trailergot a reported 21mpg at 60mph.
