Problems Shifting

The other morning it was colder than usual and I started my truck but I couldn't get it out of 1st to back up.I pumped the clutch a few times and it worked to back up but then the same thing happened to get back to first.  Then I went down the road and stopped at a light and when I tried to go it died and wouldn't start or change gears. I pumped the clutch and tried to start it for a while and it finally worked. The weird thing is I have driven it for a day now and haven't had any of those problems. Any suggestions to what is going on?

Sounds like your clutch bro if not your clutch might not be kicking back and staying in N.

Sounds like a possible slave cylinder problem... the rangers are equipped with a hydralic clutch and the slave cylinder actually operates the clutch.. theres a possibility that the slave had air in it and the change in weather made the problem more noticable.. but hearing that the problem hasnt happened since then most definately sounds like u had air in the clutch system.

    The clutch slave is bad. I think it needs replacing or bleeding. I am concerned that shifting into gear does not prevent the truck from moving. The truck is a 1996 ford ranger.
