My Jeep cuts off during acceleration speradically.

Asked by FredWW Oct 31, 2008 at 02:13 PM about the 1998 Jeep Wrangler Sahara

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 98 4.0 w/manual trans. During accelration 1st - 4th gears it will just cut off for a second. The check engine light comes on when it deos this, but there are no codes when I connect it to a tester. It does not do it in high gear. I have a shift light on the dash, could this be shorting out and cause this? If so can it be disconnected without any damage to the computor?
