Navigation/Stereo problem

Asked by Jennifer Sep 18, 2020 at 02:46 PM about the 2017 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2017 Mitsubishi Lancer. I have the newer Navigational/sterio system. When
the battery went dead, while at a shop having the window replaced, it caused
my Nav system to say "Failed to read map data" on the screen. It will not let
me do anything. No buttons work. Radio doesn't work. Only thing working in
the back up camera. Called "Here" to see what I need to do and after
multiple things including taking it to the closest dealership, an hour away,
they state I have to replace the whole system. That estimate over $2,000. Is
there anything else I can try. I have unplugged battery and removed the data
chip multiple times. Still reads "failed to read map data".

Ask the Dealer about a flash. On many newer vehicles the computers must be powered up at all times. Even during a battery replacement. Otherwise stuff like this can happen. Flashing the computer means reprogramming it with the latest software using your VIN. Usually costs about $100. Hope that helps! Jim
