2017 Ford Edge 2.0 Eco boost engine was replaced at 48,000 miles

Asked by Guru91LK8C Dec 19, 2021 at 07:15 PM about the 2017 Ford Edge SEL

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Coolant leaking into the cylinder, engine had to be replaced. Is this going to
happen again? this is a defective engine. Ford service manager said Ford
redesigned the engine. I called Ford and was told the engine has not been
redesigned. Has anyone had this engine replaced and did you have trouble
with the "new" engine? thanks

A friend leased one of these vehicles for 3 years (2017 to 2020). He received a notice from Ford instructing him to bring the vehicle in and they would add a sealant to the coolant to prevent coolant from leaking into the cylinders. He did and had no problem with the engine for the remainder of the lease. I would imagine that replacing the engine would solve the problem better than putting sealant in the cooling system, a BandAid, for the life of the vehicle. What kind of warranty did they give you? Hope that helps! Jim
