Engine knock after over heating

My 1986 Chevy astro
van   4.3L V6 overheated
and died I let it cool
down added a gallon of
water then started it.it
had a knock when
started drove about 3
maybe less Miles and it
died agian . Then when
the tow truck driver got
there it would not turn
over is there a
reasonable fix?or do I
need a new engine?
