Why does my car crank longer than it should

Asked by Najsidhbvfhrh Jun 22, 2021 at 08:38 AM about the 2016 Chevrolet Impala Limited LT FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Every time I fill up with gas, when I start my car it will crank for an excessive
period of time, even when I return the key to the run position. And lately, it only
seems to happen after I put gas in. Any help is appreciated.

Sounds like the purge valve for the EVAP system is stuck open. When this happens raw gasoline can be forced into the engine during refueling. This will flood the engine and make it difficult to start after refueling. Is the check engine light on? If so have your local auto parts store scan the computer for trouble codes. This will confirm that the purge valve is open. Hope that helps! Jim
