Low performance at low end of high gear

Asked by AKGood Dec 21, 2019 at 06:33 PM about the 1988 Chevrolet C/K 1500 Cheyenne 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have an '88 k1500 5.7 with the th350 3-speed. I
have a lack of power on the low end of high gear. I
rack it up, upshift, and loose power and speed. It
shifts back into second and revs high rpms just
fine. I've replaced the distributor/rotor/cap, new
plugs and wires, new air filter. New fuel pump, filter,
and fuel pressure regulator all within the past few
months. It does fine sometimes, but really
struggles under a little load.

This is why I would upgrade to a 4 speed auto box. I also suspect your final drive ratio is high or you have over sized tires.
