Diesel replacement for a 1988 Chevrolet Scottsdale 1 Ton Crewcab 7.4 L engine

I have an 1988 Chevrolet Scottsdale 1 Ton Crewcab with 4 doors and a 7.4L/454 engine. I would like to get better fuel mileage and change the engine to a good diesel engine. What would you suggest that would match the current engine mounts or need minimal alterations. Thank you!!

Perhaps the 6.5 liter Detroit diesel installed in Chevy trucks from 1994 to 2000.
