1983 f100 sat for about a year due to bad carb...installed new carb, replaced oil got new battery but wont start...will start and run putting some gas into carb...

Check the fuel pump pressure, it may have gone bad during this time, and also replace the fuel filter. Residue may have collected in the fuel lines as well.
