Passenger seat fell through floor board?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought a 2004 honda civic coupe special edition about 4
months ago. I noticed the other day that my passenger side
seat frame has fallen through the floor. The car is has no
rust underneath, but there seems to be a giant square of tar
where the seat fell through so Im assuming it happened
before and they just patched it up. Has anyone had this
before, is it common? Is my best bet a welder or are their
other options? My inspection was just passed for 2 years
and Ill probably be looking for a new car by then anyways
so im not looking to fix for that; I mainly dont want anyone
to fall through my floor.

I figured a weld shop is my only chance before winter sets in lol and I wish I could say a sumo wrestler but it was definitely previous owner issues lolll steal of a deal on the car though so I wont complain

Yes, a body shop will need to weld a patch panel on and inspect the rest of the underbody to be safe. Unfortunately it might cost more to fix than the vehicle is worth. Hope that helps! Jim

Thats what I assumed I only paid 1000$ and i got a year and a half left on inspection so ill probably just leave it

Scrap it! I bet there is a lot more cancer if you inspect the car closer.

We did inspect it by a couple different people thats why im on here no one can figure out why the floor and underneath is so clean but that fell through. The only thing I can imagine is if a very very heavy set person was dropping into the seat constantly becausei know a person who had a car that this happened to and they where heavy set.

A fat guy dropping into the seat would not break the metal. If you are sure there is no other rust then by all means repair the hole.

Im gonna just take it to a body man and have them look it over because it makes no sense to me lol was just wondering if it was a common issue mainly

Not a common issue, usually it is due to rust and someone did a poor patch job. Your body shop will be able to set you straight and offer a repair.
