What happened to my car?

Driving to work today, I noticed a
small change in the engine noise. A
mile or so later, I saw that the temp
gauge was reading really hot. I only
had a couple minutes left to drive, so
I turned my heat on to cool the
engine some. It came out hot at first
but then cooled off. I heard a belt
whine momentarily. A short bit after
that, the RPMs went to zero and I
pulled over without power to do
anything else and walked to work. It
was all in a couple minutes. Now, I
was low on gas but I don't know if I
was low enough to run out. Would
that happen that way anyway? Can
anyone help? Thank you.

Its sounds like your engine belt what drive alternator and coolant pump fail,that why engine temperature hot rise and after you crank your heater up,what is put lot of load on battery and drain it,you engine stops.Check your driving belts,maybe its gone or just belt tensioner dos not hold belt and its sleeps without spinning a pulley

First, are you one of those people who might not look at the oil in a car? First, vital to Add fresh oil, make sure you change your oil and filter every 5,000 miles. But second, yeah, above abrecos is correct, the drive alternator and coolant pump fail is a likely situation....check that oil, though,
