starter wont engage

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Wow where do I start. I have a 2010 A5 Quattro 2.0L. I pulled the engine and totally rebuilt it. Put it back in the car and when I go to start it. the dashboard goes black then nothing. I believe that all of my grounds are okay. The starter looked great when I had it out. No signs of corrosion. The battery was dead but boosting the car had the same results.

Since you did all the work yourself your only course of action is the back-trace everything. Unfortunately there will be nothing online that can help you - unless - somebody has done the exact same thing and can give you some pointers. Sounds electric to me. Connection not plugged all the way in? Wires chaffed and grounding out? Fried ECM from wiring not hooked up correctly - host of things. Good luck.

Maybe I should be more specific. I get an ECM error code U0100 but also a transmission module code error and other minor errors. I have two ECMs for my vehicle. The car only blacks out when I try to start it. I have all other stationary functions.
