Car made a clicking noise off and on. No check engine light. Nothing before it died.

I know this is an old post but if anyone is looking for a helpful answer it’s to replace the ignition switch. I just went through this with my 2009 A5 Quattro. Issues I was having before it completely failed was: 1) rear lights were showing bulb outages on dash warning at start up but were completely functional 2) taking multiple pushes of the key fob to start car. Replaced battery at that point but it continued to happen sporadically. 3) fob would occasionally get stuck in ignition switch and take a few times to disengage and upon complete failure the fob was stuck and I couldn’t get it out until I removed the faulty switch. Replaced on my own with my son’s help. There were a few helpful posts regarding this. Would be helpful if you have the correct tools. If I can do it, anyone can that’s not even a joke but i had just dumped 3300 in it for a new heater core so I wasn’t taking it back
