Planning to do make-shift header wrapping... will a kevlar-knitted cloth work to reduce engine heat?

Question type: Car Customization

can a kevlar-woven cloth be an alternative header wrap for my 4-2-1 oversized headers instead of the traditional material? will it
be able to mimic the traditional wrap's capabilities to reduce under-hood heat and quicker exhaust escape?

A variant of Kevlar called Nomex would work even better. Nomex is fireproof while kevlar is fire resistant. They both are an aramid weave, but Nomex can withstand very high temps better.

where can i get that Nomex? is it available in Asia areas particularly here in Manila? the makeshift kevlar i got was just cut from a knit vest used by SWAT...

im also planning to wrap my 3-3 ram air with it... is it advisable if i go below the car and wrap my cat as well? thay say it makes heat escape better and it gives convincing results... well, how about for a naturally aspirated setup?

It is marketed by DuPont so if you have a way to order from DuPont you should be able to.

exhaust wrap is probably cheaper then anything like that and it wont give you that big of a difference. if you want your engine bay cooler then try putting about 1 inch spacers to lift the rear of your hood up that helps with letting heat out

you mean the hood gap kit? isnt that what some ricers use for looks? i was thinking of something else like a hood scoop or something..

yeah well all they are are spacers and yeah ricers do it but some do it to make stuff fit and also people with turbo builds or drag racers like to get air flow through the bay and out under the hood also it lets all the air that gets directed into the bay out in an aerodynamic fashion also why people put "speed holes" in their rear bumper
