My 1973 beetle keeps overcharging and it stil uses the old power regulator what can i do?

the generator lights go of when u start the car but when u drive more than 10 min u start smelling the battery acid

Change the regulator? Generator sounds good...

i got a new regulator but the thing keeps overheating u can barely touch it so i don`t know what i did wrong i put the green and red wire together with the red wire on the regulator and the green and blue and the black and brown.
