Powerful engines in small VW bugs

Okay gents, Ive been ruminating an idea for a
while.
A very powerful engine in a VW bug.
Gonna turn a rust bucket into sleek matte black
convertible.
This will be my first independent build.
I will be buying the bug from a local for
roughly$1400-$2300
But the engine.. im not sure where to start. (Truly
learning) but want a dangerously powerful engine
that still fits.. so what engine would that be?
AND if you have anything else, post educational
links. This is a few years out. But ive decided it. I
want this car.

What if I have to fabricate a chassie for it. And get one of those British engines. Thats an option, right?
I read an article. (Forgot the engines name) but theyve made a small british engine just as powerful as a V8
Today, everybody makes small engines as powerful as V8s. It's just that they don't fit into a VW rear; there have been conversion kits out for years to mount a Chevy small block into a Porsche, and I assume this would work for a VW, as well. The point is that if you do this, you'll kill yourself. Look at a Sunbeam Tiger; they came with Ford 289s. This is a more stable small car, though probably not really stable enough, to put a powerful engine into. If you want a hot Bug, get good health insurance.
Negitive ghost rider. That is the power I want. Ill never go that fast without altering the suspention and everything. Its the power I want behind it k owing as I drive I can get there. But will never accelerate it that far.
