loud banging noise

Asked by stormrider281 Sep 30, 2017 at 02:26 AM about the 1970 Volkswagen Beetle Hatchback

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just rebuilt a 1600 cc be engine. and we put it in
the care and made sure everything was working
right. all the bearings were within specks. so as I
was driving down the road the engine began to
knock loader and louder and so we stoped right
away and checked the rockers and they all seamed
find and the engine turns over just fine. so I was
wondering if maybe one of the cylinders have
started to hit against the new head we put on ?

did you make sure the muffler is on coreectly ? some loud noises can be atributed to a not properly seated or conected muffler.
