Are under car shield necessary?

I have a 2015 Nissan Murano... my under car shield
was hanging, took it to the dealership and was told
it wasn’t really needed. Is this true?

I would replace it if you are concerned and can afford to replace it.

Shields also help keep water out of the engine bay. I would want it.
