Is it a problem to run 15 w 50 Mobil 1 synthetic in the z 06 for the summer months. The manual says use it for the track. But i'd like to avoid the change back  5 w 30 when driving on the street

With a car like the Vette and cost of one, I would follow the recommendations in the owners manual, it may be a pain but for the time and a few dollars spent it may be worth it to avoid problems down the road...

That car has a $20,000 engine in it. Use what the manufacturer recommends or you are asking for problems.

You use a heavy weight oil if you're running hot, as in extended racing. If you only run short course races, and then regular driving, why not go to the middle and 10-W 40? I have used 50 racing oil in my Corvette for years, and never had an engine failure. The 1969 Corvette like all the cCorvettes run on the hot side, so going up 10 weight will not hurt it. BUT make sure you do not void the warranty. Some engines are not covered if factory recommended products are not used. Chevy makes the engines from the blood lines of a road racer, so it is designed to run hot and use the lesser oil. But like you say, the racers on the track do use a heavy oil because of the higher continual temps. I always felt 5 weight was used in the winter months so when cold it still would lubricate until the engine warmed up the oil. In the summer and fall, start with a 10 weight oil, and 40 is a fine all around.
