I just was wondering if the outside door handle is just meant to be opened for emergencies with the key because I tried it and it unlocked but some weird sounding alarm went off?

This is part of the security system in the vehicle. It should lock/unlock with the key without problems. Use the key fob to unlock the door first and try it, if the problem persists, you may have a malfunction in the security system.
