Does anyone know how to use the Manual in the Automatic Transmission Chevy Cruze?

My car (picture) has Manual with AT. I want to learn how to use it to get better gas mileage. I tried once but almost hurt the
engine. I went right back into AT after that. The car's manual was no help at all and neither was Google. Any tips anyone?

With any transmission, automatic, manual and manual with automatic clutches, getting to the highest gear in the shortest amount of time will result in the best fuel economy. Leave it in "Drive" and let the transmission do the thinking.
How do you mean? I have normal AT and at the "D", if I pull it towards the left, there's "M" with "+" and "-". I'd like to know how to utilize it.
When you pull it to the left, you take manual control of when the transmission is going to shift. It's just like a manual transmission but you have no clutch pedal. To get better gas mileage, you want the engine to be turning slower so you would shift up to the highest gear as soon as the car is going fast enough. -- The manual controls are mostly for faster driving or when you anticipating passing someone or to provide more engine braking when descending a hill.
Go to chipyourcar.com get stage 3 chip its about 209 dollars but it gave me +5mpg but gives you 60hp more so u want to drive it fast making it seem like you get less mpg honest leave it in auto and drive normally or shift between 2500rpm and 3000rpm for fuel efficiency but it depends on your roads your on if u have uphill and u shift 2500rm you can end up actually putting alot of load on the engine so i recommend just keeping it in auto with the chip it shifts alot faster and you get more turbo spool now my mpg dropped cause i have exhaust mod k&n high airflow and im running shell 91 vpower nitro + with octane booster and a larger cam that the chip was able to adjust the fuel to air ratio but yeah you learn as you drive depends on the road weather tires and fuel i use M+ when i race or want pass someone or if i want to show off the turbo by putting load on engine that i dont recomend you do often lol get a nice muffler delete and new resonator that exhaust system is costing you a good 70hp not exactly sure i got the chip with just filture upgrade only ran at like 200hp but after the exhaust and cam upgrade im pushing 412hp lol totally worth it in my opinion if i drive normally i get about 29mpg in city and 43 on highway if i drive to be fast i get like 17mpg

Hey GuruTF52Q where did you find a larger cam and what year is your cruze. and also did you need to tune the car for 91 octane. Im looking to get more power out of my 2012 cruze eco but dont really know where to start if you could leave me links that would be great thanks.
