Dashboard lights. I have a 1997 GMC Suburban 1500. My dashboard lights don.t come on unless I turn the headlaights on. I believe that they used to come on whenever the truck was running just as the daylight running ights do. When I asked the repair place to fix the dash lights they told me that they only came on when the headlights were turned on. As I have not driven my truck in a while I would like to know if I am remembering incorrectly of if I need to take my truck in and have the dashboard lights repaired so that they will come on when the engine is running.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Should my dashboard lights be on when the engine is running or just when the headlights are actually turned on.

On those years the dash lights are only on when the running lights or, and the headlights are on. Otherwise they are off. They do turn on at night with the headlights on, correct?

Yes they do turn on at night when I turn on the headlights. I just thought they came on in the daytime when the running lights were on, which is all the time when the engine is running.
