Dashboard and tail lights not working

Asked by Elena Mar 21, 2016 at 06:34 AM about the 1999 GMC Suburban C1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1999 GMC SUBURBAN 1500 2WD
that my dashboard lights and tail lights went
out when I turned on the headlight switch. I
checked the fuse box under the dash and it
was blown so I replaced it. I also replaced
the headlamp switch because I was told by
mechanic it could be that. But it still did it
again, it blew the fuse again. Can anyone
help on what could be the problem?

Blowing a fuse indicates that there is a short somewhere in that circuit. It is never fun to trace down.

Derrick hickory209 I've changed the switch so many times it isn't funny. Everytime it blows the headlight switch. They told me it was an electrical problem and that's not easy at all

Ok I just had this problem if you have a tow package check the line that connects the trailer lights from the truck I had mine folded up near the hitch of the truck and the lighting storm we had caused ground lightning to pop it and ground it out on the hitch so it blew the fuse didn’t revise it till I got to checking all the lights and wires first time for this just glad I found it and and cut the burned ends off and hooked it back works fine now and no more blown fuses
