2015 new jeep with rust underneath. Is this normal?

Asked by bob_fiske Jan 06, 2015 at 12:20 PM about the 2015 Jeep Wrangler Sport 4WD

Question type: General

My jeep is one day old.  I looked underneath and there is rust on the front drive shaft, muffler pipe, and some bolts.  Should I be seeing rust this soon?

Yeah, unfortunately it's normal. It's just "surface rust". When I got my '14 Wrangler last year, I sprayed black Rustoleum spray paint everywhere I saw surface rust or exposed metal to prevent further corrosion. I sprayed VHT flame proof paint on the exhaust pipes as well.

Painting is fine, but to do a better job concerning surface rust, spray or brush on a product called FOZZ, it is a rust prepping clear primer that actually turns rust back to a paint-able surface. Works great. Find it at a marine store.
